The Wizard of OZ

We wanted to write a “Wizard of Oz” revisited, similar to our cartoon series “The Maltese Falcon Revisited.” “Revisited” just means that we are following certain elements of the original story by Frank Baum, some visuals from the movie version. But most of all, our goal was to change the overall story, making it more about Dorothy on a journey of finding her own strength to fight both the Wicked Witch of the West and the Wizard. On this journey she becomes more of a proactive, mature girl (“badass” would be too much of a stretch), making her a more modern female.

For those readers who have seen the movie version, this is a stark contrast with both Dororthy in the novel and Judy Garland, who are too sweet to strike out physically against the evil forces of Oz. Our Dorothy, it turns out, is not so innocent.
